Riverside ICU Updates

01/27/2010: Updates from RMC

  • Gina has had a rough couple of nights here at Riverside. Her pain has come back on and off and we think it may be that her tolerance level has adjusted to the medicines given to her.
  • Dr. McDonald is back (yeah!) and she seemed amazed too that Gina has 'adjusted" to the medicine in the few days she was absent.
  • We are back to the challenge of making adjustments to current meds (Versed, Dilaudid, and Haldol) and possibly considering trying something else. The IV's and push meds have been increased; however, since they are given at such a concentrated amount now, Gina has to have her vitals constantly monitored.
  • Dr. McDonald and some of us talked last night about some other ideas for medicines being given to Gina. We are all still on the same page though, that we do not want Gina to have any more pain
  • The staff has been trying their best to keep Gina comfortable and with as little pain as possible. That is a challenge, it seems, and is a constant battle. As soon as Gina gets a little rest, she goes right back to having pain.
  • I thank all of you that have respected our wishes to keep Gina in your prayers and ask for relief.
  • We are still trying to keep visitors to only the immediate family since Gina has had little rest. I feel that Gina would rather be remembered for the way we all know her - smiling, perky and beautiful.
As usual, I will keep all posted and keep praying for peace for our Gina!   8)

I am sure you tell her daily of all the prayers and well wishes we all post and in spirit we are all there with her!! She is in our thoughts and prayers always. Tim, Donna, Anna and Brandon Jones

Oh Bobby thanks so much for taking the time to post us again. Your posts are priceless to all of us. Its hard for you to take time to do it I'm sure. So thanks so much for thinking of us. I think we've all resolved that seeing Gina as she "was" is better for her and all the family. This special time is private and for you all to share. I will ALWAYS remember her that way. So many good times and memories. She knows we all love her. How many times would it need to be repeated right? I will continue to do nothing but pray for her painless passage to her new life waiting for her with the angels. She will always be all of our "special angel" and I will pray that you and the kids be filled with a peace that only God can give that passes all human understanding. Feel hugged Bobby.

Bobby, I hope you know how much we all appreciate you giving us these updates. Trust that we do understand why you do not want Gina to have visitors and that our thoughts and prayers are with her and with all of you. We will never forget the lessons she taught us on how to live life and how to face its hurdles with faith, courage, hope and that incredible smile. Please whisper to her how very much all of us love her and that we want her to find peace. We know she will be watching over all of us and be giving us a kick when we need it. We love you and are thinking of you always.

Oh Bob......
I know that she has all she needs in you and her family in these final days. I am eternally grateful for our days in the hospital together just before Christmas. I know your 'plumbing' problem at home , just before Christmas, was a gift from God (lol...seriously)and an opportunity for me to be with Gina, because the moment I heard Gina was in ICU and you needed Erik's help at the house and he hung up the phone, I had an overwhelming feeling come over me and I told Erik that that day was the last day I was ever going to spend with Gina. When I got up there, we talked a little, we laughed a little, we cried a little and then we shared a chocolate brownie :) We hugged each other and told each other we loved one another....more crying. It was two friends saying good-bye.....then she fell asleep. I stayed for 5 hours that day. I am so glad I did. :) Hope you are okay Bob. Hope this blog makes you feel connected and NOT alone. Thank you for the gift of updates.

Love

Dawn, Erik and kids

Dear Bob,
Rachel & I went shopping for Confirmation & 8th Grade Graduation
dresses on Saturday. Although our
one on one time was priceless, I was dreading the whole experience
because our tastes' are so different and it is a challenge with today's styles to find modest appropriate dresses for Confirmation. While Rachel
was in the dressing room and I was thinking about all the places I would much rather be, a thought came over me
and I wanted to cry. Gina and Bailley may not get the opportunity to shop for the dresses she will be needing. It made me sick that I had approached
the moment with a bad attitude. I felt God and Gina telling me to savor the moments because they are so very precious. I tell you this only because
Gina has taught me many ways to appreciate life more by the way she has lived hers. Although Bailley has a grandma(or 2) and many of Gina's closest female friends that will help
her in many ways as she continues to grow into a beautiful young woman, please know that Rachel and I would be happy to take Bailley shopping if she would want to go with
us. Tell Gina we love her. Always in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. Jean & Rachel Lindsey

thanks for keeping us all updated. She is in all of our prayers as well as the whole family. As you said we all need to remember her the way she was because i will never forget all those time her doing my hair and we would just sit and goof off and try and decide what we would do next with me hair or even at the soccer field or the casino night at st joe's. She has the most beautiful smile and she would always be smiling and it would light up anyones day. Give her our love.
